Pies for Old People

I think baking is a lot like photography: both take a bunch of different ingredients/components and combine them together to make something entirely new and entirely wonderful. I adore baking and it is no secret to my family that I harbor a fantasy of opening a good old fashioned pie shop. Savory pies, fruit pies, custard pies, cream pies…if it’s in a pie crust, I want to make it. And sell it. I know, of all things, right? But, I think you all know how I feel about pie. The feelings run strong.

Well, the DH and I met our son and his girlfriend today for lunch and during the meal, talk turned to the ever increasing shortage of young workers and what that means for many different industries, including manufacturing, construction and restaurants.

At the word “restaurants,” I said, “OH NO! What am I going to do? Who am I going to get to help me run my pie shop?”

Without missing a beat, my darling son said: “Old people, mom. Your slogan could be:

“Old-fashioned PIES. FOR old by people, BY old people.”

I am totally cutting the kid out of the will.
